

Elzy was born April 29, 1932 at Pemberton, WV. He was the son of the late Joshua James and Nanna Bell Carter of Pemberton. Elzy was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years,
Jo Ann Bragg Carter. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Marietta (Heath) Bell, and Pauline (Randolph) Ziegler; two brothers, Frank Carter and James “Bubby” Carter; and two nephews Jack Bell and Frankie Carter.
Elzy is survived by three sons: David (Michelle) Carter of Cool Ridge, Danny (Michele) Carter of Cool Ridge, and Donald (Gretchen) Carter of Green Sulphur Springs;
Grandchildren: Josh (Michelle) Carter, Ashley (Matt) Stevens, Ally, and Emily Carter, and one great-grandchild due May 2021; and nieces: Sue Cline, Barbara Bell, and Carol (Henry) Lilly; and a host of other family and friends.
Elzy was retired from the 4th District International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a 64 year member of the IBEW. He served in the US Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Elzy was a member of the Ghent Freewill Baptist Church. Elzy enjoyed working outside in his yard and garden, and on the farm with his sons. He loved his family and would do whatever he could to help them. Along with his love for his family, he had fun teasing and joking with people and that’s how you know he liked you. He was an active and independent “young” man up to the time of his death.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, December 4, 2020 from 12:30pm -1:00 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will begin at 1:00PM with Rev. Danny Gilfilen officiating with graveside service to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
