

Ernest H. Lukie, 84, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015 after a short illness. He was born on September 23, 1930 to the late Kathleen Cumbow. Lukie, as he was known by his friends and family, was employed by Anderson Coal Company, Perry and Hylton Coal Company, Tracey Hylton Coal Company, Tammie Lynn Coal Company, and Riverton Coal Company. He loved his family, friends, and animals, and was an avid horseman. Lukie was happiest and in his greatest glory while on his farm. His greatest pleasures were spent on his farm raising his grandchildren. In addition to his mother, Ernest was preceded in death by his step-father and step-mother, John and Wanda Lukie, step-sister, Wanda Lukie Berry, great-grandmother, Maw Cumbow, and uncle, William “Bill” Cumbow. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Jackson Lukie; daughter, Tammie Lukie Chinn and husband, David; “son”, Sammy Dean Gregory and wife, Linda Brewer Gregory; grandchildren, Nicholas Lukie Miller and wife, Andrea; Corey Lee Miller, Sarah Miller Haye and husband, Daniel; Anthony Neno Gregory and wife, Kelli; Sammy Gregory and wife, Teresa; Jason Gregory and wife Lisa; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Miller, Samantha Gregory, Logan Gregory, Shelby Gregory, Jaden Gregory, and Reagan Gregory. Services for Lukie will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at 2pm with Pastor Richard Allen officiating. The family will receive guests prior to the service on Tuesday from 12pm -2pm. Following the services, Lukie will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with his grandsons and family serving as pallbearers.
