Evelyn Grace Arnott, 92, of Beckley went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born November 25, 1932, on the VanVossen family farm in Bristol, PA, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Anna (Van As) Van Vossen, who emigrated to the United States from the Netherlands. For 33 years, Grace was married to her beloved husband, Charles “Charlie” Arnott, until his passing on February 24, 2012.
First and foremost, Grace was devoted to her Savior, Jesus Christ, having been saved early in life. Motivated by her love for Christ, she was devoted to helping others and spent her life being involved in various avenues of service. For over 30 years, Grace had a successful career as a nurse at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital. Wanting to enhance her knowledge of the Bible, she took classes at Appalachian Bible College and, in 2015, she received a plaque awarded annually by the school to an alumnus in honor of faithful and enduring service.
For over 60 years, she was a faithful and devoted member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Beckley. She was active in the music ministries, especially in beautifully playing the church organ until her health prevented her from doing so. With Charlie, Grace dedicated herself to ministering to the needs of missionaries in many ways including trips to help them on their field of service, contributing resources of time, effort, and finances, and maintaining personal contact through letters and emails. Upon Grace’s passing, condolences have been received from missionaries in various nations who benefited from her prayers and kindness.
It was important to Grace to be personally involved in the lives of people. She delighted in helping children and youth learn about Christ. She was untiring in visiting people in hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice, as well as going to the homes of people to encourage them and share with them her love for Christ.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Grace was preceded in death by sisters Elsie VanVossen, Ann VanVossen, Phyllis VanVossen, and Eleonor Fry, and brother, Philip VanVossen. Grace is survived by one sister, Marie VanVossen, of Bensalem, PA and by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 262 Mount Tabor Road, Beckley, WV 25801 with Pastor Michael King officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
