I’ve been blessed to have several strong female influences in my life, and aunt Francis was one of those. I loved visiting with her, those hugs, and that smile. When the minister said she never spoke ill of anyone, I laughed a little because that was spot on-she didn’t. If you were hers and she loved you, she loved you faults and all! After I lost my mom and went to live with my dad, I felt like I’d not only lost my mom, but I’d also lost aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was a constant through that time. She called regularly and even came to visit me in my new home many times . At this point I realize how uncomfortable that might have been for her, but she did it and kept doing it because I was one of hers and she loved me no matter what. I’ll be forever grateful for her presence in my life, especially the times that I needed it most. I’ll miss the chats in her kitchen, the fruit salad that was the bomb, and the treasure chest of toys she kept in her end table that generations of our kids played with. Rest well aunt Francis.

I never liked green beans. So when Aunt Frances would call dad and say she had beans ready, he would go over and pick them up. She always had a cup of coffee and good conversation about Jerry’s hunting and Charles’s work. Pictures of all the kids were on the fridge. Dad would come home with a bushel of half runners ready to be strung and canned. That would blow my whole day, so you understand why, at the age of 10 I didn’t care for green beans.
Fast forward 50 + years.... I love green beans and am always reminded of Aunt Frances, the beans and her love of family. She had a special knack of drawing us all together a little closer. Simple acts of kindness was shown to all of us.

Mrs. Lively and I met at the Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, where I worked as lab tech. I had a Lively license plate on my car, she saw it and we found each other. My grandmother was a Lively. We had a wonderful visit each time she came to the clinic. I missed her very much after I retired. She was fun and sweet and interesting. I loved her.

Francis was the main individual that made me feel welcome at Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. Her kind and loving spirit always made me happy to be near her. I will never forget her kindness. I know she was loved by many but she was also my special friend. I will miss you!
