

George G. Shupe, of Crab Orchard, WV, went to be with the Lord on January 11th, 2017 in Beckley, WV. George was born in Tazewell County, VA, to Olen and Helen Shupe on May 22nd, 1942. He attended school at Pocahontas High School. On March 25th, 1961, he married Helen Ratliff and they have celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage. He was a long time member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in MacArthur, WV. George was employed as a coal miner for Consolidated Coal until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father Olen, mother Helen Hollaway Shupe, sisters, Annie Nipper, Maggie Parker, and Ollie Lawson, brothers, Wallace Shupe, Ervin Shupe, and J.R. Shupe.
George is survived by his devoted wife Helen Ratliff Shupe, son Rick Shupe and wife Sherry of Crab Orchard, son Tom Shupe and wife Samantha of Crab Orchard, and son James Shupe and wife Amy of Teays Valley, WV. Also, brothers David Shupe of Boissvain, VA, Raymond Shupe of Roanoke Va, sisters Shirley Hines of Bluefield Va, and Charlotte Dunahoe of Bluefield WV. Granddaughters, Brittany and husband “Turtle” Rash of Coal City, WV, Hillary and husband Nik Mower of Crab Orchard WV, Kristan Shupe of Crab Orchard, WV, and Heather Shupe of Crab Orchard, WV.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley with Pastor Terry Hatcher and Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Andrew Cox, David Lester, Mike Lester, Nik Mower, “Turtle” Rash, and Keith Sexton. Alternate will be Jimmy Ratcliff. Flowers may be sent to Blue Ridge Funeral Home or donations of sympathy to Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in MacArthur, WV.
Dad, you will be lovingly and severely missed by Mom, your three sons, and your four granddaughters. We know our loss on earth is Heaven’s gain. We will see you soon Pops!
