Mr. Gerald Sonny/ Jerry "Sonny/ Jerry" Runion

Gerald “Sonny/Jerry” Runion, 72, of Artie, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Born September 9, 1942, he was the son of Ola and Virginia Stover Runion. Gerald was a retired coal miner and 40-year UMWA member. He was a former member of The American Legion Post 32, and an avid volunteer with The American Red Cross and the Clear Creek Fire Department. Gerald served for four years in active duty with the United States Air Force. He was a 1960 graduate of Clear Fork High School. In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by brothers, Ola Jr., Leon; son, Gary David Runion, and grandbaby Runion. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Helen “Sue” Runion of Artie; son, Anthony Runion of Artie; daughter, Anna Gray of Redstone Arsenal, AL; son, Adam Runion and wife Marissa of Fort Bliss, TX; grandchildren, Savanah Runion, Trenton Runion, Jacob Gray, Jadon Gray, Traci Runion, Ashton Runion, Mason Runion; brothers, Terry Runion and wife Janet of Charleston; Leslie Runion and wife Sara of Naoma; sisters, Joyce Dickerson and husband, Gene, of Weston, MI; Kathy Prewitt and husband, Larry, of Katy, TX; sister-in-law, Doretta Runion of Mossy. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
