

Goldie was a graduate of Shady Spring High School, class of 1942, and then began working with the Coca Cola Bottling Company. Afterwards she worked as a typist at the Pentagon and the department of the Navy before her marriage in 1946 to Robert Earl Freeman.
Goldie was a lover of music, enjoyed taking long walks, and cherished the time she and her sister Mary worked on crossword puzzles while chatting on the phone until Mary’s death. Goldie was a member of the Shady Spring Garden Club, as well as a member of the Beaver United Methodist Church for 60 years.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Goldie is preceded in death by her brothers; Dorsey Akers, Robert Akers Jr., John F. “Frank” Akers, and infant brother Dewey; sisters, Blanche Robelot, Helen Marion, and Mary Radford.
Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Robert “Butch” Freeman (Linda) of Daniels, WV; a daughter, Linda Karen Freeman of Beaver, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Friday, June 30th, 2023 at 11am at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor William Todd Younce officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior.
Those who will serve as pallbearers will be Mike Marion, Mark Akers, Eddie Radford, Sam Corey, Danny Quesenberry, and Shane Bowling.
Her family extends a special thanks to her home caregiver Crystal Adkins and the two nursing homes that took care of her.
