Ira Keith "Link" Marcum, 65, of MacArthur, WV, passed away October 5, 2021. Born April 22, 1956 in Welch, West Virginia he was the son of the late Robert and Audrey Duff Marcum. Ira was a graduate of Mullens High School, class of 1974. Ira started his career in the Coal Mining industry upon graduating from high school, then later worked in construction in Chapel Hill, NC only to return home to the coalfields of West Virginia for the last 29 years.

Ira was a good man that had a special bond that he shared with his family, friends and neighbors, he didn't know a stranger. He was a devoted family man, who cherished his soulmate, and son. Ira especially loved being outdoors, either on a river, lake, the mountains or the beach with his family. An avid sports fan, he loved, fishing, hunting. Was always excited when Nascar season come around and especially enjoyed college basketball rooting for WVU and UNC, loved watching the Chicago Cubs baseball and NY Jets football, enjoyed TV, especially old westerns and enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts. He loved his two shepherds, Maia and Mhysa who were always by his side ready to entertain him. The affection and kindness he exuded was ever present in his actions and caring towards others. Ira is someone that loved and was loved, and will be missed.

Ira was preceded in death by his father, Robert Marcum, and his mother Audrey Marcum, nephew Jamie Roop, and a very special sister-in-law Felicia Marcum. Those left to cherish his memories include his beloved soulmate of 39 years Etta Brehm; his son, the pride and joy of his life, James "Jake" Marcum. His brothers, Robert "Bobby" Marcum and Linda, and Roger "Muggs" Marcum, his sister Carolyn "Susie" Thomas; nephews, Jason Roop, Roger Marcum Jr., Chris Marcum; a niece Kayla Marcum Martin, a very special family member Mickey, special neighbors Roy and Joni who are family; and many more loving family and friends.

At Ira's request he will be cremated and his ashes brought home.

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

One of my very first memories. My grandparents thought the world of Ira. They were neighbors.
How I wish my word's could ease your pain. I so believe Larry is showing Ira all the beautiful places in heaven.
I have always loved this precious family. My love and prayers are with you all.

My sister and I have known Ira, Etta, and Jake for most of our lives, living with Mawmaw and Pawpaw right next door. Our hearts definitely go out to Etta and Jake, and I want to say that they're in our thoughts and prayers.

My dearest Link,
Writing this obit was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. There are not enough words to express how much you loved and lived life. These past few days the “if only’s” and “what if’s” have consumed me and run rampant in my mind. I know that’s not what you or God would want but it’s so, so difficult to rid them. As the good lord would want, I will do my best to try and not dwell on missing you, the soulmate that I have lost; instead, I’ll stay strong and always be thankful and cherish the time and memories that we had together. When I look at Jake I will see you, and remember how proud you were of him and how you always smiled when he was near. I’ll never forget you my love…until we meet again…forever and ever…”Browneyes”

We will always have fond memories of Ira always throwing up his hand to us when we went over to Mom and Dad's. He was always such a quiet and gentle person. He will be missed dearly. Praying for Etta and Jake. You all are family and we love you so much.
