Jack was a man of deep faith, strong character, and unwavering love for his entire family. For 61 years, he shared his life with Patricia, the love of his life. He was cherished by his children, Lisa and Jack, Jr.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, daughter, Lisa Saunders, and her husband, David; son, Jack Whitt, Jr., and his wife, Shay; his grandchildren, Kayla Saunders, Kyle Saunders, Abram Whitt, Aaden Whitt, step-grandchildren Emma and David Willard, and his sisters, Rosanna Mongeni and Debra Cook, and his brother, Roger Whitt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
There was a special place in Jack’s heart for his grandchildren. They were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His love for them was evident in the time he gave them, the wisdom he shared with them, and the joy they brought to his heart. The memories they made together will remain with them for a lifetime.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Graham Whitt and Shadric Aaron Whitt; his sisters, Sharon Hunter, Teresa Weis, and Donna Biggs; and his brothers, Donnie Whitt and his baby brother Robie Eugene Whitt.
Those who knew Jack will remember him for his strong love of God, his steadfast devotion to his family, his high moral integrity, and his extraordinarily strong work ethic. He was humble, dependable, and quietly strong. He never sought recognition for doing what he believed was right. He simply lived his life according to his convictions...And with all that strength and seriousness, Jack also had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.
Jack understood the value of hard work from an early age. He began working at just 14 years old, holding multiple jobs throughout his life. He ultimately spent 27 years of his career as a coal miner, including many years as a miner operator. He took great pride in providing for his family and approached his work with the same determination, integrity, and perseverance that characterized every part of his life.
But Jack’s greatest treasures were never found in his work. They were found in his faith, his family, and the simple moments of life. He loved spending time with his family (including his brothers and sisters who always meant the world to him), being outdoors, and reading his Bible and devotionals. His relationship with God was not simply something he talked about – it was woven into the way he lived, the way he treated people, and the example he set for those he loved.
Jack leaves behind far more than memories. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, honesty, humility, perseverance, and unconditional love. He showed his family what it means to work hard, keep your word, and put your trust in God.
Though their hearts are broken by his passing, those who loved Jack can take comfort in knowing that he finished his earthly journey faithful to the Lord he loved. He is now at peace, reunited with those who went before him, and resting in the presence of his Savior.
Jack will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. His life was a gift to his family and to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends – and in the example of a life lived with faith, integrity, hard work, humility, and love.
