James "Buddy" Douglas Odham

James “Buddy” Douglas Odham, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Raleigh General Hospital. Born on June 19, 1935 in McAlpin, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Odham and Verlis McComas Odham.

Buddy was a veteran of the United States Army and worked many jobs throughout his lifetime, including 20 years in the coal mines as a roof bolt operator. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke. He was a very outgoing and hardworking individual who made friends everywhere he went and to know him was to love him. He loved and cherished his pets. Buddy was married to his beloved wife, Catherine for over 60 years and together they raised three children and one granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, Robert Lee and Verlis McComas Odham, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Jo Hope Odham; sisters, Patricia Sparks and Wilma Mills; brothers, Ronald Odham, Aubrey Odham and George Eugene Odham; and great-granddaughter, Jazzlyn Ann-Marie Copney. He is survived by his son, Douglas Dwayne Odham; daughters, Kimberly Dawn Potter and Lori Ann Odham; six grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other loved ones; his special and beloved caregiver, Lisa Danley; and one granddaughter who he raised, Savannah Chatfield.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Miller officiating.

Buddy was such a great man, I don’t think there’s nothing he wouldn’t of done for me and my family. To know him was to have a friend for life. I saw him reach up several Times through that night and I know he was seeing his beloved Catherine. Life will never be the same with both of them gone I will never find a family that is even half as good. Please remember his grand daughter,
Family and friends cause on Jan. The 2nd we lost a great man. I will never forget the love they showed me, my heart is so heavy and sad but Heaven is sweater knowing one day I’ll see both of them again . Pray for all
