October 4, 1942 – August 23, 2021
Jean Beard, 78 of Beckley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2021, after a long illness. She was born in Logan, WV on October 4, 1942, and raised in Eunice, WV where she graduated from Marsh Fork High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation, on June 17, she married the love of her life Frank Beard.
Jean was a stay-at-home mom as she enjoyed raising two wonderful children. After raising her children, she went back to school to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a registered nurse, she went to work at Raleigh General Hospital in the New Born Nursery, a job she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church, where she loved attending services.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 61 years, Frank Beard; daughter, Beth Beard of Beckley; son, Matthew Beard and wife Nicole of Sarasota, Florida; granddaughter, Samantha Clinebell and husband Charlie of Cameron, North Carolina, and great-granddaughters, Lily and Grace Clinebell; a special sister-in-law, Mary K. Armstrong of St. Albans and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Corba Varney Pittman; and brothers, Clarence and Junior Varney. Special thanks to Dr. Herbert Oye, Dr. Wadih Kabbara, Dr. Kelly Pitsenbarger, and the ICU nursing staff at Raleigh General Hospital.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. and funeral services will be Friday, August 27th at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home where she will be entombed in their mausoleum. Officiating will be Reverend David Bush & Dr. Mike Sisson.
As an avid animal lover, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Raleigh County Animal Shelter in Jean’s memory.
