

Born March 10, 1932 in Lillybrook, West Virginia. Jimmie was a graduate of Stoco High School and Beckley College. He received a bachelor’s degree from Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston) and a master’s degree in social work from WVU. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by Beckley Newspapers, Dept. of Human Services, Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whelan Psychiatric Services, Raleigh Psychiatric Services and V.A. Medical Center at Princeton Vet Center. He served as scout master for Troop 219 Crab Orchard, and president of the Southern WV United Way Executive Board.
His current community involvements were serving on the advisory board of the VA Medical Center, past president of NARFE (National Association of Active/Retired Federal Employees), member of Korean Veterans local chapter, Raleigh County Historical Society, All Wars Veterans Museum, Association of Lincoln Presenters, Crab Orchard Missionary Baptist Church and the choir and a member and past commander of American Legion Post 32.
In his retirement, beginning in 1995, he enjoyed presenting Abraham Lincoln for over 15 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Donie Rubin (Ballengee), Beatrice Rubin (Hubbard) and Evylene Rubin (Shanks); brothers, David Rubin, Garvin Rubin, Bernie Rubin, Eugene Rubin, Andrew Rubin and James Rubin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Edna Richardson Rubin; son, Mark Rubin and wife Felicia of Beckley; daughters, Susan Rubin Sims and husband Phil of Belle, and Leigh Ann Rubin Tabor and fiancé Greg Reed of MD; grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Brice Rubin, Michael and Christie Herbik, and Justin and Natalie Tabor; great-grandchildren, Maddox, Mahayla and Lillian Rubin. He is also survived by his last remaining sibling, sister, Juanita Newcomer of TX.
Friends may gather with the family Friday, April 22, 2016 from 6-8pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held 2pm, Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Sisson officiating.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Post 32 Honor guard. Jason Rubin, Michael Rubin, Daniel Rubin, Brice Rubin, Michael Herbik and Justin Tabor will be serving as pallbearers.
