Born In Prosperity on July 23rd, 1953, he was the son of the late Lewis and Beulah Blake.
Jimmy worked his entire life doing everything from slinging hay in his youth, to retiring as a do it all maintenance man at Subaru. Through the years he amazed many onlookers as he climbed, roped, and cut trees all while swinging carelessly from tree to tree and limb to limb.
Jimmy was a lifelong lover of dirt track racing, having lived beside the track in Prosperity his entire life. Outside of dirt track racing, he enjoyed watching Nascar and WVU football and basketball. He also was an avid deer hunter in which many stories have been told “they may have been expired due to lead poisoning” as shot after shot rang out along many West Virginia ridges.
Jimmy will be mostly remembered by his family, friends, and coworkers for his infectious laughter, and his joking and playful picking that helped lighten the mood everywhere he went.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by an older brother, Lewis “Dee” Blake Jr.; a nephew, Michael Robertson; and a chosen nephew Keith Bills.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Jimmy Blake Jr, (Kimberly) of Flat Top; two grandsons, Aidan Blake (Hailey) of Charlotte, NC, and Garrett Blake (Bre) of Huntington; and two sisters, Janet Blake of Mt. Hope, and Pattie Edwards (Mark) of Sprague.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to remember Jimmy on Monday, March 10th, 2025, from 6PM to 8PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.
