Juanita Ross Tingle, age 89 of MacArthur died peacefully at Harper Mills Nursing Center on Thursday, September 17, 2020. Born February 1, 1931 in Kenova, West Virginia she was the second of ten children born to the late Robert and Carrie Davis Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, JD Baer and her second husband, Ted Tingle; a brother Emory Ross, and sisters Ann Reynolds, Doris Gooderham and Gerry Huff.
She relocated from Catlettsburg, Kentucky to MacArthur, West Virginia in 1966 where she resided for more than 50 years. Upon settling in MacArthur, she was employed by Beckley Manufacturing. She was a homemaker for many years after; however, while in her 70s, she worked part-time at the MacArthur Post Office.
She was a member of Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church at Saulsville and enjoyed attending faithfully with her sister, Carol. For over 30 years, she was an avid bowler on two leagues at Leisure Lanes and had a knack for picking up splits. She was an excellent cook and among her family’s favorites were her macaroni salad, spaghetti and deviled eggs. For decades of summers she enjoyed camping with her family at Summersville Lake. More than anything else she enjoyed being with family and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom loved her deeply. Known for her fearless attitude and quick wit, she will be missed more than words can ever express.
She is survived by her children Brenda Sturgill and son-in-law Benny of Surveyor, Richard Baer of Shady Spring and Leigh Ann Day and fiancé Rick Dixon of Surveyor; grandchildren Steve Sturgill of MacArthur, Jeff Sturgill of Olean, New York, Sean Udy and wife Leslie of Columbus, Ohio, Lindsey Brown and husband Jason of Dawson and Anthony Day of Beckley; great grandchildren Justin Brown, Harrison Udy and Fisher Brown; sisters Della Jones of South Point, Ohio, Ada McFann of South Point, Ohio, Carol Buckland and husband Roger of MacArthur; brothers Robert Ross and wife Pat of South Point, Ohio and William Ross and wife Gina of Grandview and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with visitation from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
