

On Tuesday July 21st, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family and friends Kathy Yvonne “Norris” Reed 75 years old of Coal City, WV completed her course here on Earth and was welcomed into heavens gates following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 4, 1951, in Whitby, WV, to the late James and Myrtle Norris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Reed, brothers Anthony, Bill, Hobert, Frank, and John Norris, mother and father in-law Jennings and Elsie Reed, and special nephews Wayne Norris and Lee Reed.
She was a founding and lifetime member of the Community Baptist Church of Coal City where she served alongside her husband Bill for over 30 years. Kathy’s life was centered around her family and church family. She nurtured and cooked for people in which she loved doing; many have said that was her ministry and calling in life. She also enjoyed gardening and canning and always kept the cellar full for family and friends as well as anyone in need. Her door and table were always open where everyone always felt at home and cared for. She was the community mom and mamaw to numerous kids throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children; daughter Kerri Willson of Gallatin, TN; sons Andy and his wife Dreama, Eddie and his wife Margaret; daughter Patty Watkins and her husband Ernie all of Coal City. Grandchildren Scottie Wilson and his wife Ella, Sarah Mollett and husband Branden, Lindsay Reed, Justin Watkins, Miranda Sexton, Drew Reed and his wife Becca, and Kimberly Patterson and her husband Tim. Her great grandchildren who were the apple of her eye and the reason she fought for so long, Sabrina, Elsie, Eli, Zeke, Elleri, Liam, Kayden, Kylei, Kruze, Quinn and “Baby Reed” due in February 2027. Brother Clayton Norris of Glen Daniel; sister Nancy Lewis and husband Jim of Chattanooga, TN; sister in-law Wilma Keffer of Coal City; brother and sister in-law Dallas and Barbara Reed of Coal City; sister-in-law Wanda Matherly of Glen Morgan; sister-in-law Delores Norris of Coal City; special nephew Ronnie Norris and special nieces Beverly Castanon and Janet Berry as well as many more nieces and nephews that she loved with all her heart. Special friends Beulah Kipps and Becky Hart; as well as her loving 4-legged companion Reggie.
Services will be held Wednesday July 29, 2026, at 2PM, with Reverends Eddie Polk and Charlie Brown officiating. Friends may join the family at 12PM; following the services Kathy will be laid to rest beside the love of her life Bill at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Scottie Wilson, Sarah Mollett, Justin Watkins, Drew Reed, Branden Mollett, Tim Patterson, and honorary pallbearers Eli Mollett and Zeke Sexton.
The family would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. Khanna and Sarah Stanley of CAMC Cancer Center Beckley, Dr. Surayia Hassan of Access Health, and the entire staff at Select Hospital in Charleston for their exceptional care and making mom feel so special for her 75th birthday, with a special recognition to nurses Ashley, Jessica, and Micayla who went above and beyond for mom and her extended family. Lastly, to the employees and Bowers Hospice House who made mom’s last 24 hours comfortable and peaceful with a special recognition to nurses Rachael and Lindsay, and Samantha Mollett for helping with mom’s care.
And to the congregation of the Community Baptist Church of Coal City, thank you for your prayers, visits, and love you have shown mom and our family over the last 30+ years and your continued love and support during this trying time.
In lieu of flowers, Kathy had requested that memorial donations be made to the Community Baptist Church of Coal City building fund at PO Box 922 Coal City, WV, 25823.
