Born on March 2, 1936, in the Willowton area of Mercer County, WV, she was the youngest child of the late Maryland Fitzhugh Caldwell and Martha Mae Hill Caldwell.
Lucretia was a long-term resident of Sophia since her high school years. She most recently attended Family Worship Center until her decline in health would no longer allow. She often watched I Heart Church on television, where her grandson, Brandon Hawley pastors. She enjoyed time with her family, especially at Christmas. Anyone who dared to play a game of Tiger Wood’s golf on the PlayStation or agreed to sit down with her for a game of Rummy, could find themselves in a very competitive situation.
On December 23, 1955, she married Clinton Roy Thompson in Raleigh County, WV. Their life together was filled with a love for each other that endured throughout the years. Every challenge was met with fierce prayer and dedication. After 58 years of marriage, Clinton preceded her in death on June 8, 2014. Without a shadow of a doubt, we are certain that he was at the gates of Heaven with open arms to welcome her home.
She had a journey with Clinton took them to various locations to pastor and together, they planted the Glen White Church of God. She dedicated her time and poured countless hours into ministries and was always willing to help guide anyone she encountered to the Lord. Her faith and family were at her core. She was dedicated to her children and raised them to love and know the Lord as she did. Her love for her family was immeasurable. Each accomplishment big or small acknowledged with her interest and enthusiasm. Her daily prayers to God were not just a habit, they were her way of being a solid rock to her family. She was truly a blessing to us all and she will never be forgotten.
Her legacy extends across three generations to those who knew her as Mom or Mamaw and she will always be remembered for offering wise guidance and encouragement. Her loving and nurturing heart will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
