Marvin Thomas Barber Sr.

Marvin Thomas Barber Sr., 85, of Glen Daniel, WV, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, following a long illness. Born October 10, 1940, at Kopperston, WV, he was the cherished son of the late Arlie and Mabel Barber.

Marvin was a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, serving a 3-year tour in Vietnam and later completing another 6½ years performing U.S. government contracts in Vietnam. Returning home, he became a 22-year retired coal miner from Maple Meadows Mining Company and an Assistant Coach (football, boys basketball, and track) at Liberty Raleigh High School. Known for his vibrant spirit, he was a huge WVU fan, the oldest member of his local weekly VA veteran meetings, a Master Mason at the Big Spring, Texas Lodge, and an active member of both Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Daniel, WV and Chestnut Ridge Community Church in Morgantown, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Mabel Barber; sisters, Ella Mae Carter, Mary Richardson, and Nancy Day; brothers, Jimmy Griffith and Bill Barber; brothers-in-law, Lam “Tony” Vo, Hai Vo, Frank Barthold, Eddie Richardson, Frank Day, and Russell Carter; and sisters-in-law, Mary Barber and Tamiko Griffith.

Marvin leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Kim Barber of Glen Daniel, WV. He is also survived by his three sons, Marvin “Tom/Tommy” Barber Jr. and wife Bobbi of Independence, WV, Gary Barber and wife Maria of Fairfax Station, VA, and Patrick Barber and wife Melissa of Middletown, MD; seven wonderful grandchildren, Emma Barber, Dylan Barber, Gabriel Barber, Liz Hershberger, Emily Hershberger, Rhys Barber, and Delaney Barber; four sisters, Daisy Bryson and husband Rick of Fairdale, WV, Sheila Hurst and husband Randy of Fairdale, WV, Sadie Barthold of Fairdale, WV, and Charlotte Scott and husband Ken of Oak Hill, WV; and one brother, Doug Barber of Orlando, FL.

The service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Family viewing begins at 11:00 AM, and friends may join at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Kevin Kuhn and Deacon Mike Fury officiating. Following the service, the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard will perform the Military Burial at The Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 will also provide a graveside service with interment. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
