Mary Ellen Hatfield

Mary Ellen Hatfield, 91, of Mabscott, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026. Born on March 11, 1935, Mary Ellen lived a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and the simple things that brought her joy.

Mary Ellen was the beloved wife of Edward Hatfield, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and many cherished memories.

She was a devoted mother to her two children, Robin Gottlieb and Rick Smith, and a proud grandmother to her only grandchild, Jeremy Smith. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she treasured the time they shared together.

Mary Ellen was a hardworking woman who took great pride in her work. She worked at Smith Transfer for 18½ years before going to D.H. Warrenizing Dry Cleaners, where she worked as an accountant and cashier for 20 years until her retirement. Her dedication and strong work ethic were a reflection of the kind of woman she was.

Mary Ellen was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She found comfort and strength in her faith and in the church family she was blessed to be a part of.

In her spare time, Mary Ellen enjoyed the things that allowed her to be creative and make something special with her own hands. She loved sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her handmade creations were a reflection of her patience, talent, and love, and many of them became treasured keepsakes for those she loved.

Mary Ellen was one of four siblings. She is remembered by her brothers, Coy Ray and George Ray, and her sister, affectionately known as Tootsie. The bond she shared with her siblings was a special part of her life, and the memories they made together will continue to be cherished.

Mary Ellen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, the love she gave to her family, and the many lives she touched throughout the years.

Though her hands may no longer be busy sewing, knitting, or crocheting, the love she stitched into the lives of her family will remain forever.

Mary Ellen will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held for Mary Ellen Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 12PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, WV. A funeral service will be held at 1PM. Following the service she will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
