Mary Stevenson

Mary E. Stevenson died on September 27, 2025, in Kingsport, TN. She was born on July 8, 1933, to Littie L. and Ina Burns Warren in Alderson, WV. She was the last remaining sibling in her family. She spent the majority of her life in Beckley, WV and retirement in Canal Winchester, OH and Kingsport, TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel B. Stevenson, in 2009. She is survived by a son, James Nicholas Legg (Carol), daughters, Susan Bauer (Hobe) and Cheryl Legg Hudnall (Phil), and stepson Daniel B. Stevenson (Sharon), four grandchildren: Jessica Legg-Bagley, James Nicholas Legg III, Emily Hudnall Roebke, Elise Hudnall North, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was employed by the City of Beckley, Gates Engineering, and Raleigh County Magistrate’s Office. Hobbies included traveling, baking, and writing. She authored several publications on southern West Virginia coal mining towns. She was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church.

Graveside services will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, West Virginia, on October 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Blake in Kingsport, Tennessee, on October 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
