Mrs. Mary Ann Viars

Mary Ann Viars, 86, of Midway, passed away August 13, 2015. Born June 19, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Stephen & Hattie Sokola. Mary enjoyed cooking, her dogs and most importantly being a mother and grandmother. Family always came first. She was of the Christian faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; Carl Viars, sister; Betty Ratliff, brother; Anthony “Tony” Sokola, son; Charles “Chuck” Viars, and grandson Shannon Viars. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Christina “Christy” Spencely and husband John, Jane Hicks; sons, Lawrence “Van” Viars, Darin Viars and wife Tara; sister-in-law; Lois Sokola, daughter in law, Patsy Viars; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special lifelong friend, Betty Zimmerman Poe. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Hidden Valley and Dr. Joseph Golden. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Hospice of Southern WV, PO BOX 1472 Beckley, WV. Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, August 18, 2015 with Rev. Mel Jamison officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may gather with the family Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
