Melody was born January 4th, 1963 to the late Augustus and Frieda Lowry McVey and grew up in Ansted, West Virginia. She is the youngest of 8 siblings.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. McVey and Sam McVey, and two sisters, Nora Crist and Victoria Kay Markivich.
Melody earned a degree in business and worked at Eriks Corporation (Lewis-Goetz/Gooding Rubber) for 30 years. While she started as a secretary, through her hard work she quickly moved up as the operations manager and remained there for the majority of her career.
She is survived by her daughters, Chelsea Wallen of Huntington and Brooke Wallen of Beckley; husband Steve of Beckley; three brothers Tom McVey and wife Bonnie of Princeton, James Conrad “Mac” McVey and wife Rita of Beckley, Richard McVey and wife Debbie of Beckley; sister Sharon Fox of Proctorville, Ohio; along with many nieces and nephews.
Melody will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, selflessness, and her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Melody remained strong and optimistic even throughout her final days.
The family would like to thank the staff of Carl Larson Cancer Center and Bowers Hospice House for their excellent work and loving care.
Services will be held Saturday, February 8th, at 2 pm at Prosperity First Baptist Church in Prosperity, WV. Gifts of sympathy should be sent to Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, WV.
