And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Melvin Douglas Polk was born on May 2, 1951, to his loving parents, Lendo and Virginia Polk. On August 30, 2018, he entered God’s kingdom while surrounded by family. Melvin was a proud WV coal miner. After working underground for 18 years, he shared his love of coal with others while working at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mines until he retired in 2012. When outside of the mines he spent time with family, at church, in the woods hunting, or taking a four-wheeler ride. Cancer may have taken him from us but we take comfort in knowing that he is now with his father, Lendo Polk; brother, Michael Polk; grandparents, Creed and Lavie Polk and Everette and Ertle Price. Many people will cherish the memories they made together including his three loving children, Eddie Polk and his wife Crissy, Doug Polk, and Pam Wallace and her husband Thomas; five wonderful grandchildren, Amber Polk, Andrew Polk, Katelyn Polk, Kristian Polk, and Catherine Wallace; his loving mother, Virginia Polk; two sisters, Barbara Dickens and her husband Ralph, Sharon Milam and her husband Randy; stepson, Michael Grey; stepdaughter, Jennifer Waits; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Melvin will be deeply missed by his loving church family at Mabscott Holiness Church. Those who will carry him to his final resting place, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, will be Ralph Dickens, Randy Milam, Thomas Wallace III, Larry Woods, Robert Moore, and Richard Burgess. Those wishing to pay their respects and share their memories with Melvin’s family can do so on Tuesday, September 4th, from 12-2pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Pastor E.G. “Buzz” Keller will conduct the funeral service and graveside committal services will follow and be conducted by Eddie Tucker. Melvin’s Family would like to send heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Bowers Hospice House for the wonderful care that they provided to Melvin and the compassion that they show to all the families that enter their doors.

My dear brother, what a wonderful blessing you are in my life. I miss you so much. Until I see you in heaven you will always be in my heart. Hugs for you and give Sky sky, Dad and Mike a big hug from me. I love you my dear angel. Thank you so much for taking care of dad and mom. I now know you are without pain and live in that big mansion in the sky. You taught me so much about God and the bible I will never forget. When God calls me I will be there, until then I will always pass your blessings on. I will always talk to you in heaven until we meet again.
Love always
Your sister Sharon and Randy
