Minnie Evelyn Furey, 88 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House. Born on February 4, 1930 in Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Weldon Beckett and Ethel Thompson Beckett.
“MeMaw” or “Grandma” as her grandchildren called her, was a lifelong and the oldest surviving member of Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Daniel. Earlier in life, she was the “Avon Lady” for years in Glen Daniel. She was well known for her cooking and baking and won the Betty Crocker Baking Award at the State Fair. Later in life she loved bus tours. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, the outdoors and loved to go camping.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert McVernon Furey. She is survived by her sons, Randy Furey and his wife, Sandy, Michael Furey and his wife, Toni, and Blaine Furey and his wife, Katrina; grandchildren, Justin Furey, Olivia Stewart and her husband, Chris, Vess Furey, Matthew Furey and Jordan Brown and his wife Carol; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis King and Betty King; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Dewey Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Christus Garden of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers honoring Mrs. Furey are her grandsons.
