Paul William Thompson, age 89, of Mt. Hope, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Bowers Hospice House. Born on August 2, 1931 in Notomine, WV, he was the son of the late Oscar Thompson and Mary Gladys Stover Thompson.
Mr. Thompson served as a Sgt. in the United States Army. He loved West Virginia football and was an avid Mountaineer fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by wife, June Bean Thompson; daughter, Teresa Thompson; his sisters, Victoria Thompson, Lola Margaret Dunbar, Willa Toney and Donna Mullens; his brothers, Frank Thompson, Ross “Bunny” Thompson, Layton Thompson, Van “Jinx” Thompson, Raymond Thompson, Charles Thompson, Glen Thompson and Kenneth Thompson; and grandchild, Junan Thompson.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his sons, Charles Allen Thompson, Raymond Franklin Thompson and his wife, Robin and Robert Paul Thompson; daughters, Pauletta Hagerman and her husband, Jack and Vonda Thompson; grandchildren, Raymond Lee Thompson, Justin Ray Thompson, Trisha McClaugherty and her husband, Jamie, Billy Ray Humphrey, Travis Wayne Humphrey, J.R. Van Dyke and his wife, Susan, Crystal Smith and her husband, Dennis, Heather Michelle Thompson, Bobby Thompson and Kenneth Charles “K.C.” Thompson; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in the Faith Mausoleum of Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens
Family and friends will honor Mr. Thompson as pallbearers.
In accordance with the current CDC guidelines, the family and the staff of Blue Ridge Funeral Home ask that those who attend the services wear proper facial coverings and practice social distancing at all times.
The family wishes to thank his Health Care workers, Natalie Canaday, Kim Smith, Teresa Gardner and Samantha Boone, and the staff from Bowers Hospice House, The VA Medical Center – Beckley and Raleigh General Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Mr. Thompson.
