Born on April 5, 1960, in Savannah, Richard was the son of the late Richard Albert and Barbara Jean Bailey. A devoted Christian, he faithfully attended Glen White Church of God, where he worshiped faithfully and served alongside his church community. Richard was a humble man who quietly loved doing the Lord’s work.
Richard proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. His dedication to service continued beyond his military career, as he volunteered with hospice to perform pinning ceremonies honoring fellow veterans — a ministry that meant a great deal to him.
He had a deep love for baseball and was especially proud to be the founder and manager of the Beckley Mianeers Baseball team in the ABO League. Through his leadership, mentorship, and steady example, he positively influenced the lives of many young athletes both on and off the field.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Arlena “Rene” Sears Bailey; his step-son, Joshua Deweese; and his brother-in-law, Eddie Sears (Teena). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Paige Palmer (Grayson), Brian Turbeville, Alishia Austin (Christian), Seth Turbeville (Emily), and Cassidy Graham (Cameron).
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Melony Lester and her family for the love, help, and unwavering support they have provided during this difficult time.
A joint Celebration of Life for Richard and Rene will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen White Church of God with Bishop Jess Farley officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Glen White Church of God or Hospice of Southern West Virginia in his name.
Richard will be remembered for his humility, quiet strength, steadfast faith, and lifelong commitment to serving others.
