Born on July 8, 1966, in Beckley, Ronny was the son of William and Helen Frey. He was a man who took pride in his work, found joy in the outdoors, and had a lifelong passion for West Virginia sports.
Ron graduated from West Virginia University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to dedicate 31 years of his carer to the West Virginia Department of Highways as a civil engineer, his work was something he took great pride in, and his years of service reflected his dedication and commitment to his profession. Outside of work, Ron loved spending time outdoors, especially mountain biking and camping. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the mountains and the adventures they offered. A devoted West Virginia sports fan, Ron always seemed to know the latest scores, stats, and sports facts. Whether it was football, basketball, or another big game, he could often be found watching whatever sporting event was being streamed. His knowledge of sports and enthusiasm for his favorite teams were a part of who he was.
Ron is survived by his loving parents William and Helen Frey: his brother, Steven Frey, and sister-in-law, Pamela, his nephew Steven Jr., and wife Kristan, and their son Gage; his niece Katrina, and her son, Kyler; his uncles Jack Bowden (Becky), Wesley Bowden (Reba), and Fletcher Bowden (Lisa); along with many cousins who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Johnny Frey; his maternal grandparents, Jack Sr. and Helen Bowden; and his paternal grandparents, Emmett and Marie Frey.
Ronny will be remembered for his dedication to his career, his love of the outdoors, his unwavering enthusiasm for West Virginia sports, and the unique place he held in the hearts of his family.
Though his passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled, the memories he created and love he shared will live on in those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and all whose lives he touched.
Rest in peace, Ron. May the mountains you loved, the open trails you rode, and the memories you leave behind forever be a part of your legacy.
