Russell Edward Hoge Jr., age 68 of Sophia passed away in Charlottesville, VA on June 30, 2019. He was born November 20, 1950 in Mullens, WV to the late Russell Edward Hoge Sr. and Dorothy Mae Smith Hoge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Adkins; and sister, Dorothy Beckett. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 23 years, Mabel Hoge; son, Russell “Eddie” Hoge III (Jessie) ; daughters, Lisa Powell (CJ) and Zina Justice (Bill Burdette); sister, Virginia Williams; brother, John Hoge; 9 grandchildren, Emilee, Asley, Gage, Eddie, Shea, Hunter, Cayla, Katrina, Steve and 4 great grandchildren. Eddie was a proud member of the Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church and loved his brothers and sisters there. Eddie was also a proud US Army Veteran serving two tours in Vietnam. Eddie was a devoted family man and still found the time to bowl a perfect 300 game. Funeral Service will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Saturday July 6, 2019 at 1 pm. Charles (Butch) Acord will be officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 12-1pm. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralhome.com

I knew Eddie in high school. He was a really good guy, and he used to laugh and tell me that girls more or less had to work for their grade, but when the boys smiled and flirted with the female teacher they did not have to work for their grade!!!! It was given to them!!!! To Mable, and the rest of his family I am so very sorry for your loss!!!! May the LORD keep his loving arms around all of you, and give you the strength to carry on from day to day!!! He has won his battle, and all of us are left to keep fighting until we are called home, or raptured, when the LORD comes back!!! EITHER WAY WE WILL BE A WINNER!!!!!!!

Edward and I graduated from Mullens High School together in the Class of 1968. We reconnected on Facebook and enjoyed sharing our youthful memories. I am so sorry for the loss of this man of faith and friend to many. Sincere sympathy to his family. May you find comfort in all of your memories.

Eddie I will miss you.. We had been together for 68 years and we had our share of ups and downs like most brothers and sisters..
I know Heaven is Beautiful..
Now you and Dorothy are together with mom, dad and Steve.. won't be long until I will join y'all..

PS: I have heard there are no Ford's in Heaven only Chevrolet's..

Eddie and I went to school together and was there in Nam at the same tome. he was a good friend and wonderful man. We both knew Eddie before we started bowling together at Accu-Lanes. We had so much fun and made tons of memories. Eddie was a true patriot. To bad there aren't more like him. R.I.P. my friend. You were and will also be loved.

So sorry to hear of Eddie's passing. Praying that God will wrap his loving arms around each and everyone of his family and give them peace and comfort.
