Ruth Rachel McVey

1930 - 2022

Ruth R. McVey, 91, of Prosperity went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.

She was born on September 12, 1930, in Fayette County to the late Damer and Baxter Gaither of Scarbro, West Virginia.

Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Prosperity. She loved talking about the Lord to everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her church friends, her children, and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Mount Hope Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Godmother of the Rainbow for Girls.

She was loved and admired for her wit, wisdom, and her deep love for her children. She was a loving mother who told her kids she wanted to leave this world laughing, feeling like she had done something right in this world by the way she honored her marriage and raised her children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Walter, her oldest son, Robert “Bob” David, and her sister, Garnet “Teenie” Garden.

She is survived by her son, Roger McVey and Judy of Elkins, WV; daughter, Pamela Crawford and Pat of Beckley; son, Michael McVey and Carole of Prosperity; daughter, Stephanie Edmonds and Bill of North Sand Branch; and a stepson, Sam McVey and Pauline of Florida. She had 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and some great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 1:00 with Pastor Andrew Davis officiating. Pallbearers will be some of her grandsons and great grandsons, Mason, Patrick, Cooper, Bill, Bob, and Peyton. Those wishing to attend, please gather at the funeral home parking lot by 12:45.
