

He was born July 20, 1929 in Slab Fork, WV to the late George L. Kester and Topsy M. Sarver Kester.
Sam retired from National Mine Service May 1, 1992 having worked there for 45 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Virginia “Jenny” Kester; brother, Billy J. Kester; sisters, Loretta Kester, Edna Allenbaugh, and Bernice “Peakoe” Compton.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Mike Kester and wife Linda of Princeton, Billy Wayne Kester and wife Mona of Princewick, Mark Kester of Princewick, Steven Kester and wife Scarlet of Beckley; daughter Jenny Kester Phillips and husband Dennis of Beaver; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Paugh of Daniels and Laurissa Chornobay and husband Eddie of Scarbro.
Services will be held at 1pm on Thursday July 5, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Ernest Calfee officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will take place from 11am – 1pm on Thursday July 5, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
The family would also like to give special thanks to his home caregivers Louise Adams, Shelby Petrey, and Melvania Sanger; the entire staff of Harper Mills; The Step Down Unit of RGH; and lastly the entire staff at Bowers Hospice House.
