Shirley was, first & foremost, a very devoted & loving mother, grandmother, & great grandmother – the ultimate family matriarch. Shirley also was a caring & dependable sister, daughter, and wife. She will be profoundly missed by all.
Her equal love, the good Lord, she was also a very devout Christian and attended the First United Methodist Church of Beckley, WV; moreover, she attended without fail the Methodist church of any WV community she lived in to include Roderfield & Beckley.
Shirley, in her twenties & thirties, also provided much-needed relief for her father-in-law & husband while performing managerial & administrative duties for one of the more successful businesses in McDowell county during the 50s, 60s, & 70s - McKenzie’s Discount Store of Roderfield, WV.
Despite enduring legal blindness in her later years, Shirley was also a powerful advocate for the disabled & contributed immensely to spurring numerous initiatives to advance the welfare of the Beckley disabled.
Regretfully, due to COVID-19 restrictions, only family members can attend the graveside memorial service to be held Tuesday, August 25, 2020, 12 noon, at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Blue Ridge Funeral Home & Crematorium – they’re also faithfully serving the family.
