Terry Smith

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Terry Allen Smith, 77, of Coal City, passed away on September 27, 2026, following an extended illness.

Born in Beckley, WV, on November 14, 1948, he was the son of the late Elmer and Madeline Birchfield Smith.

Terry was a huge avid HAM Radio Operator, using the call sign N8SYW. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with Paul Patrick and other friends. Terry loved working in his yard and working in general, always accomplishing something. He truly enjoyed fishing with his friends. He was a coal miner, truck driver and welder, amongst various other jobs.

Terry's deep Christian faith was the foundation of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Temple, Beckley Lodge No. 95 AF & AM.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Rick” Smith; long-time good friend, Zandel Cline; and special friend, Rhonda Beckelheimer.

Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy include his loving daughter Lisa King, and Sherry McMillion; grandchildren, Christopher King, Jeremy King, Aaron King, Grace Sorah, and Danielle McMillion; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve Smith; niece, Patricia Arthur; Janet Smith, mother of shared daughter, Lisa King; best friends, Steve Bowles, Frankie West, and Pastor Charlie Brown; his church family; and his many friends.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Khanna and the nurses at Beckley CAMC Cancer Center; a special thank you to Hospice and all the nurses for the care and compassion that was shown, and especially to Kim and Staci.

Services to celebrate the life of Terry Allen Smith will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Beckley, with Pastor Charlie Brown, officiating. Following the services, Terry will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery, Beckley. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
