He was born to Raymond and Violet Roark on February 26, 1941, in Beckley, WV.
Thurmond spent most of his life working as a coal miner, he took great pride in his job and had a strong work ethic. As a member of Fireco Baptist Church, Thurmond had strong faith and a kind heart. He enjoyed going fishing when he was able and many of his favorite memories were made outdoors. Thurmond will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Thurmond was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife Betty, children Schena Koone (Paul), Edward Roark (Becky), grandchildren William Koone Jr., Steve Koone (Tasha), Andrew Koone, great grandchildren Adrianna Koone, Andrew P. Koone, Steven Koone, Jonah Koone, Kayleigh Koone, Dylan Chair, Sarah Chair, Dawson Williams, and his siblings Jack Roark (Marie) and Elizabeth Davis (Claud). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
