I had the privilege of working with Al across client services and project management.  In every role, he brought a rare mix of logic, dedication, and joy.  He was the kind of teammate who made work lighter, always ready with a laugh and solution. I don’t think I ever had a call with him that didn’t end in a smile. He’ll be deeply missed—not just by me, but by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him.

Al was a valued friend and colleague at Fort Smallwood. I had the utmost respect for his character and values and commitment to family and work and when he went to volunteer for the fire department, I was in awe of his drive to be of service.  My sincere sympathies to his family.  I'm heartbroken he is gone too soon.  I hope memories of him are a comfort to all those feeling his loss.  Personally, his smirky humor that made me my smile so many times over the years can still make me smile.  His smiling threats of changing my password if I stepped away from my computer without locking it still ring in my head regularly.  He never did, but he made me believe he absolutely would just for the fun of teaching me that lesson.

We will miss you, loved meeting your mom at the last dinner we had together and celebrating your big 50. Taken away far to early prayers for your family.

I only knew Al for a short period of time, but we had friendship fueled by our mutual service as firefighters. We often shared stories of our past experiences, and it was evident that he was a compassionate man who was proud of his service to others in their time of need.
That compassion was evident to all that were fortunate enough to know him and call him friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Al Claggett. A kinder man did not exist.

Al and I first met while working at Exelon. He was hardworking, conscientious, and always quick with a smile. He was slow to anger and carried himself with grace and warmth.

I truly hope he has found the peace he so richly deserves.

At the end of his life my big brother was very kind and loving, luckily he was able to get to know my daughter Jordynn. This was one of the sweetest moments as I caught with them high fiving. 🥺

I didn’t know Al all that well, but from my brief interactions with him at the dog park, I knew he was a pretty good guy. And I could tell he loved his dog Freya, and Freya certainly loved him. 

Over the last couple of years, Al and I (and many others) spent days sharing the same space at Abingdon Dog Park with our respective dogs. Him with Freya, me with Wolfie. Most days we sat or stood on opposite sides of the park. Alot of times no words were exchanged. Sometimes a brief one-on-one or group conversation. Sometimes just a “Hey how are ya?” or a nod. Sometimes we were passing eachother as one was entering and the other was leaving. 

When you go to dog parks, you usually only ask the names of the dogs. Or at least the dog names are the only names you end up remembering. But when I’m at Abingdon Dog park, I’ll definitely remember the names Al and Freya. I’ll think of the sunny and peaceful moments when Al comfortably sat and admired as Freya pranced around the park to play with all of the dogs, most notably Lydia’s Oscar. Life isn’t always fair, life isn’t always as long as we’d hope for, but we can all be grateful for those sunny and peaceful moments that brought us happiness. 

Freya still has alot of playing to do, especially with Oscar, and I’m sure Al wouldn’t want it any other way. But one day I’d like to think Freya will somehow be reunited with Al, excitedly running and jumping into his arms, her tail intently wagging as she lets out uncontrollable cries of joy. 

My thoughts and prayers are with Al’s family and friends, especially his sweet Mother. Rest easy, Al…

You know you touched peoples lives when you could just smile or grin and that just makes people happy. Al was a very good friend to me over the years at Exelon/Constellation and his passing breaks my heart. I always tell family and friends when I get to heaven I can’t wait to see all my friends up in heaven. I know when I make it to heaven, I will see that smile and grin again and it will make me happy again. 
Rest easy my friend.  Look down and protect those that still love and continue to pray for you.
