Bernie is survived by his wife, Sallie Shaffer Moss; children, Lisa Gessner [Jason] and Ryan Smink [Kelly]; siblings, JoAnn Smyth [Ray], Albert Smink [Clarita], and Dennis Smink [Margaret]; and grandchildren, Wyatt, Rylee, Gavin, Connor, Emerson, and Rowen. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law: Surry G. Shaffer III, and Ben Shaffer [Marcille], and one sister-in-law, De Shaffer.
He is preceded in death by his father, Bernard Smink, mother, Cecilia Smink, nee Churnetski, and brother, Francis Smink.
Bernie was born on August 15, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated high school at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 1965 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Baltimore with a degree in accounting. Bernie was an accomplished CPA and was dedicated to any project he pursued or managed in his work life. Not only was Bernie intelligent, considerate, and loyal to his friends and family, but he was also fun-loving and witty, always making people smile. Bernie was a huge Ravens fan for many years, and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bernie was a kind, patient, and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A memorial service in honor of Bernie will be held on October 20, 2018 at Schimunek Funeral Home in Bel Air, MD.

1PM- Memorial Service to Celebrate Bernie’s life. All are welcomed to attend the Memorial Service.

We would also like to thank our many friends and neighbors for their amazing and loving support during these difficult last two months. Bernie said many times how much he appreciated every one of you. He was loved by many and he will be missed by many.
