On January 30, 2018 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was a wonderful husband of 57 years to Joanne R. Corey (nee Covell); loving dad to David B. Corey (Elizabeth), Jeffrey S. Corey (Jennifer) and Kelly L. Edmunds (Leroy); loving grandfather of Crystal Turnball, Kayleigh Crossley, Dannielle Scanlon, David J. Corey, Lindsay Edmunds, Sydney Corey, Summer Corey and Ryan Edmunds; also survived by 4 great grandsons, 4 sisters, 1 brother and many nieces and nephews.
As Mitch Albom once said, “Death ends a life not a relationship”. Life is a series of relationships and Dave, as he was known to his family and friends, treasured them all. Love is many things, and for his wife and children there is one resounding word that they all agree describes Dave and that is “Friend”. His wife Joanne describes Dave as her “Best Friend”!
Joanne and Dave were married 57 years, but have been together for over 60 years. When speaking of Dave, Joanne reveals that he was the “Love of Her Life”. She relates that in being her Best Friend he was always there for her, in the best of times and the worst of times. At any given time Dave could make her laugh. Like when he told his grandson he was going to get in the “she-I R E shower”. His grandson continues to say this when he is going to take a shower. He was always her comfort and her rock. She loved him for his strength and his sensitivity both with her and their children. Joanne states that Dave was not only a wonderful husband; he was a wonderful father and grand-father. There never was a moment of doubt that his relationship with her and the children was his first priority! His love for them could be seen in everything he did with them and for them. This was a man of great character, compassion and strength.
His son David remembers so vividly how his Dad was the best role model of what a Dad should be. This was an invaluable gift when he became a Dad. He will never forget his father’s love of Blue Grass music and the trip they shared to Rosine, Kentucky to see “Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mouth Boys”. David B. also lovingly remembers the East Coast trip with the family and grandkids. But, one of his fondest memories was of his Dad coaching his Little League and how all of the team loved his Dad. There was not one of his friends that did not want to spend all their time at the Corey home. Once again, David B. states, “He was my best friend”.
When speaking of his father Jeff Corey chokes up. The love he feels for his father is so evident! He states, “My Dad was my best friend”. He taught me everything I know. He taught me how to work on cars, how to remodel a home and how to be the best husband and dad I could be”. Nothing meant more than having my dad and mom working by my side for 15+- years. They helped make my business, Churchville Auto Body, what it is today.
Dave’s daughter was his “Princess”. The two boys better not touch her (or else). His daughter Kelly remembers anxiously waiting for her Daddy to come home from work because he was always giving her big hugs. She states, “I will always remember him calling me Toots. There was a special bond that always kept us close. He was there for me during the hardest days of my life, and the best days of my life. I will always love and miss you Dad. I Love You so much, TOOTS”.
I think it is best summed up by saying that Dave was a true friend to all of us that love him! He will never be forgotten as, who could ever forget a man who gave so much too so many!
You Are The Love Of My Life! Joanne Corey
WE ALL LOVE YOU DAVE and it is not Good-Bye, just see you soon!
