Jerry and I spent the last few days of Moms life by her bedside. As she grew older, especially after she developed dementia, I felt more and more responsible for her. It grieved me to be so far from her, visiting her became more difficult as we've aged. But I could not forget the promise I whispered in Daddy's ear as he died. I promised to take care of her in his place. I'm so grateful for the time I got to spend with her. As I lay beside her I told her how much she had meant to me, how grateful I was that God had chosen her as my mother. I wanted her to know how deeply I appreciated her, and most of all how grateful I was that she introduced me to Jesus. The greatest gift Mom gave her family was her example of a life redeemed by Jesus. She lived her life deeply in love with her Savior and continuously expressed her gratitude for all that He was to her. She loved God deeply, devotedly, with true passion. Her example help to lead me into my own personal relationship with Jesus. Mom and I didn't always agree on everything, but she truly was my very best friend for most of my life. Honestly I don't know if I'll ever recover from her death but I do know she's finally whole once again. Daddy and Mom are together again. She's finally free!
