Dolores Rose Silverthorne, 97, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Born on February 2, 1929, in Scranton, Pennsylvania; she was the daughter of the late Leo & Helen Smith and loving wife of 50 years of the late Clarence (Chris) B. Silverthorne.
Dolores graduated from Clara Barton High School in Baltimore, MD where she excelled in drawing, painting and sculpture. Upon graduation she was able to use her artistic skills designing store window displays of large department stores. Following this she also worked in the drafting department at the Chesapeake and Pacific Telephone Company. After her children were born, she devoted her time volunteering to support their various activities. Upon Chris’ retirement they both moved to Osprey, FL, Charlotte, NC and finally settling in Cary, NC to be closer to their grandchildren. Dolores was a constant presence at her grandchildren’s dance recitals, sporting and school events where she always had the brightest smile and words of encouragement. She was also a wonderful home cook and had a knack for making holidays seem extra special.
Dolores was cherished for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Throughout her long and remarkable life, Dolores was a devoted friend, a loving family member, and an inspiration to her community. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generosity, and her enduring optimism. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
