Donna was born on March 15, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Charles and Noreen Ritz Wiegard. She grew up in Towson, Maryland, and graduated from Mercy High School before attending the University of Maryland, College Park, where she met the love of her life, John Robert “Bob” Myers. Donna and Bob were married for more than 55 years and built their life together in Maryland, ultimately making their home in Crofton, where they raised their two children, Patti Myers Rossini and Jeff Myers.
Donna spent her professional career working in payroll for the University of Maryland system, at both College Park and UMBC. Her talent with numbers was evident throughout her life. As children, Patti and Jeff recall the rhythmic tapping of their mother’s adding machine as she and Bob worked on their taxes, surrounded by piles of receipts and long rolls of adding-machine paper. She even continued to balance her checkbook all the way up until moving to Brightview. She had a remarkable attention to detail, a quality that stayed with her throughout her life.
At the age of 65, she graduated from UMBC with a bachelor’s degree in Aging Studies, becoming the oldest member of her graduating class. Following graduation, she volunteered with Gilchrist Hospice, an organization that became particularly meaningful to her.
Music was a lifelong part of Donna’s life. As a young woman, she sang and played acoustic guitar in a folk quartet. She later sang for many years with Sweet Adelines, participated in the Bowie Senior Chorale, and continued singing in the chorus at Brightview Avondell. She also enjoyed playing the piano and loved musicals, particularly The Music Man, The Sound of Music and A Chorus Line. She was a devoted fan of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and especially enjoyed watching Top Hat with her young children.
Donna loved her family more than anything else on this earth. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a proud grandmother to Joshua “Josh” Patrick Rossini, Nicholas “Nick” James Rossini, Jonathan Nicholas Myers and Sarah Marie Myers. She was also devoted to her parents and cared for each of them through their illnesses late in their lives.
Donna enjoyed many things that brought her simple, everyday happiness: Baltimore Orioles baseball, University of Maryland basketball and football, Ravens football, trips to Ocean City, counted cross-stitch, Sudoku, Wordle, television game shows, chocolate ice cream, and her beloved dog, Georgie. She especially enjoyed classic television shows such as The Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy and Everybody Loves Raymond. Later in life, she also found comfort in watching some of the television programs Bob had enjoyed, keeping a small connection to him after his passing.
After Bob’s death in May 2023, Donna moved from the family home in Crofton to Brightview Avondell in Bel Air to be closer to Jeff and his family. There, she found a new community and enjoyed numerous activities, including chorus, theater, bingo, Wii bowling, arts and crafts, Wordle and Friday afternoon country rides. Donna cherished the relationships she forged throughout her lifetime.
Donna was a devout Catholic and longtime and active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Crofton and later attended St. Margaret Parish of Bel Air.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Patti Rossini and her husband, James, of Huntersville, North Carolina; her son, Jeff Myers and his wife, Patty Myers, of Bel Air, Maryland; and her four grandchildren, Josh, Nick, Jonathan and Sarah. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Myers, and her parents, Charles and Noreen Wiegard.
The family will receive friends and family beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Schimunek Funeral Home in Bel Air, Maryland. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Immediate family will then gather privately at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Glen Burnie, Maryland, for the committal of ashes where Donna and Bob will be laid to rest together.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brightview Avondell, Donna’s caregivers from Visiting Angels, and the team at Gilchrist Hospice for the loving care they provided to Donna.
