On January 18, 2019 Doris E. Welsh (nee Eddins) beloved wife of the late William E. Welsh; devoted mother of Pauline R. Frantz and her husband Jim; dear sister of Bob Eddins (Barbara) and Betty Hocutt; loving grandmother of Timothy W. and Donald G. Brenneman; cherished great grandmother of Jackson, Ava, Tressa, Katie, and Wyatt; also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Former secretary to several Baltimore City Police Commissioners, she was 95 and died at Hart Heritage Estates Assisted Living in Forest Hill, Maryland.
Doris Welsh was born in Zebulon, North Carolina, but spent her early years in Rolesville North Carolina. She was the daughter of Lonnie and Estelle Eddins. Doris's father was a farmer and her mother a homemaker. Doris would always say that even during the Depression they always had food and milk for their family of eight.
Doris Welsh graduated from Rolesville High School with honors. She left home to attend Strayers Business School in Baltimore. While living in Baltimore she met and married William Ernest Welsh. Soon after their marriage he entered the army during World War 2. Shortly after he left Doris gave birth to a baby girl. They had a happy marriage of over50 years.
In 1951 Doris began her career in the police department, working in the Southern District Precinct as a court clerk. At the end of her career she worked as a secretary to the Police Commissioner,her career spanned 31 years. She often joked she went to work so they could purchase a dining room set and 31 years later she retired.
Doris was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bel Air and especially enjoyed her Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Eastern Star chapter #83. She enjoyed travel,reading, and watching the Oriole games. However, her delight of life was spending time with her family.
