Edward Leon Berends Jr. passed away on September 5th, 2026, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Mary L. Berends; Devoted father of Kelly T. Berends (Jeff Testa), Kevin S. Berends (Jennifer), and Daniel L. Berends; Loving grandfather of Quinn Berends, Nolan Berends, Steven Testa, Bella Testa, and Layla Testa; Also survived by many extended family and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Ed Berends Sr and Dorothy Berends( nee Russo).
An avid sports enthusiast and skilled craftsman, Ed found joy in life's simple pleasures and meaningful moments. He was a passionate supporter of the Baltimore Ravens and spent countlessly gratifying hours working with his hands in woodworking, drawing constant inspiration from This Old House. Ed also had an eye for capturing life's beauty through photography and felt most at home near the water—whether traveling, setting sail on cruises, or soaking up the sun at his favorite spot, Siesta Key, Florida.
Above all, Ed was deeply devoted to his family and community. For many years, he generously dedicated his time as a coach and treasurer for his son Kevin's soccer teams. In his later years, his greatest joy was supporting the next generation: he could almost always be found proudly in the stands or audience at his grandson's sports games, plays, and school concerts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Maryland Food Bank.
Family and friends may visit at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., 610 W MacPhail Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Also on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 9:30 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 9:30 am. Committal Service at Highview Memorial Gardens, 3433 Fallston Rd, Fallston, MD 21047.
