Edward Albert Podles, passed away on September 30, 2025, at 80 years old. Born on October 8, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, to Joseph Podles, Sr. and Laura Podles. Ed was a beloved husband of 62 years to Ruth Podles; devoted father to Kim Marzullo (husband Mike), Karen Ball (husband Ron), and Kelly Wenner (husband Dave); cherished grandfather of Justine, Tony, Jessica, Kristin, James, Dan, Ryan, Jordan and Teddy; loving great-grandfather of Sienna, Jonny, Phoenix, and Zoe. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Podles Jr., Albert Podles, and Jacob Podles; his sisters, Delores Lowe, Connie Zeller, and Barbara Henniger; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Gregory. He is survived by his brothers-in-law, Bob Hunt, and his wife, Carolyn, and Ricky Hammonds, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. He resided in Bel Air, Maryland, where he was known for his compassionate, kind-hearted, and humorous nature.
A lifelong supporter of the Orioles and Ravens, his passion for Baltimore sports ran so deep that even his loyal black lab proudly carries the name Raven. He cherished his hunting adventures with a ragtag group of old friends despite their misguided allegiance to the Steelers. He also loved casting a line, whether with buddies or alongside his wife, Ruth.
In the kitchen, he was famous for cooking a mean breakfast, complete with eggs to order. At the pool table, he was nearly unbeatable—unless you managed to break first. He mastered the art of the dad joke long before it was trendy, often paired with his signature sense of humor: “pull my finger” antics, the occasional Wet Willy, and an endless supply of goofy grins (sometimes with teeth, sometimes without).
Singing a favorite tune, repetitively, was another trademark. He also loved old black-and-white classics, which were always played at full volume—because as everyone knew, his hearing wasn’t quite what it used to be.
Most of all, he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends, his kindness in helping others whenever he could—and for never missing a chance to make us laugh, groan, or roll our eyes.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air Inc., 610 W. MacPhail Rd. Bel Air, MD 21014, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 12-2 PM, where a Celebration of Ed's Life will follow at 2PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ed's name to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
