On May 12, 2021. Georgia Eliopoulos (nee Courtalis) passed away at home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late James Eliopoulos; devoted mother of Charles Eliopoulos, Nicholas Eliopoulos, Peter Eliopoulos and his wife Marialice, and Gina Gladis and her husband Slavomir; loving grandmother of Stefan and Nicholas Gladis; dear sister of Helen Conits and her late husband George, Niki Papageorgopoulos and her husband Bill, the late Vasiliki Glava and her late husband Manuel, the late Constantine Courtalis, and the late Peter Courtalis; cherished sister-in-law of Antonia Courtalis and Despina Courtalis. Also survived by numerous loving extended family and friends.
Georgia was born April 23, 1932, in Sparta, Greece. There she worked on her parents’ olive, barley and orange grove farm, while progressing through high school. In 1954 she immigrated to Canada, where she was employed as a domestic care assistant in a Toronto household. There she met, and was engaged to, James Eliopoulos who was in Toronto on Army leave. While studying for, and getting her American citizenship, Georgia immigrated to the United States settling in James‘ hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. They were married on March 4, 1956. She worked as a seamstress in local Baltimore tailoring companies while raising her first two sons. Later, with the birth of her third son and first daughter, Georgia became a small business owner. Her biggest venture was the Olympic Flame Restaurant at White Marsh Mall where she continued her passion and knack for serving up fine food with “kindness and smiles.”
Georgia did truly live life to the fullest and was charitable with her time. It was those simple pleasures of devotion to her children, and spending time and preparing great meals for all; with that uncanny ability to reach people in a “deep and positive way”. Always, she was a faithful and practicing Greek Orthodox Christian. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
