

Born in Baltimore in 1930 and educated in the Catholic grade and high school system. Received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Johns Hopkins University in Engineering, Science and Business. Returned to the Johns Hopkins University for additional studies in Business. Also attended many seminars throughout the country in Labor Law, Human Resources Management and related studies.
Served as a member and then President of the Personnel Administration of Greater Baltimore (1972-1974), President of The Advertising Club of Baltimore (1978-1979), Chairman of the Key Club, Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Baltimore (1968) and attained “Gold Phone” status upon recruiting 50 businesses in a 1 year period. Also served as an Executive Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America in the 1970s. Was instrumental in the planning of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor while on Governor William Donald Schaefer’s Executive Advisory Board in the 1980s. Also served as Chairman of the Membership Committee of the U.S. Savings and Loan League-State of Maryland in the 1980s.
Beginning in 1995, was a founding member of Harford County’s Mediation Commission and served as a Commissioner for years. Was an active member of the Morris A. and Clarisse B. Mechanic Foundation, helping those Maryland organizations enrich community life, as well as a member of the Maryland Public Television Board of Directors for many years. Was a proud, long time member of The Johns Hopkins Club. Received the Jeffrey Plum Award from the Maryland Center for the Arts for his dedication.
Worked tirelessly, fundraising with Father Joseph A. Sellinger regarding the building of the Loyola University/Notre Dame University Library.
Retiring as Senior Vice President of American National Savings Bank in 1991, he served a Leasing Representative for their Main Office, Director of Human Resources and Director of Public Relations.
Enjoyed attending the theatre in both New York as well as Baltimore, especially any theatrical offering at the Morris A. Mechanic Theater with great friend, Mrs. Clarisse B. Mechanic. Enamored with “flight” and took flying lessons. Daughter, Carolyn, remembers there were always numerous issues of “Flying” magazine on the family cocktail table.
He spent many hours relaxing in Ocean City, Maryland, enjoying the sun and many restaurants available. He and his wife, Doris, traveled the world including Russia, Israel, the Scandinavian and other European countries as well as cruising the Caribbean. Was an avid Colts and Orioles fan, and later an avid Raven’s fan. His favorite past time was his family, in which he took great pride.
During his high school years, he worked as a score keeper for the Baltimore Bullets and worked at the Baltimore Sunpapers with Helen Delich Bentley.
A long time parishioner of St. Ignatius, Hickory Parish, he resided in Bel Air’s “Todd Lakes”, Harford County, Maryland.
Survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Doris M. Oleson as well as daughter, Carolyn Kavanagh Lambdin (Joseph), grand-daughter Jennifer Kavanagh Lambdin Doyle (Kent) and great grand-daughters Caelen Kavanagh Doyle and Peighton Elizabeth Doyle. Also survived by one brother, Jerome Kavanagh, predeceased by John (Jack) Kavanagh, Bernard Kavanagh and one sister, Kathleen Kavanagh Lang.
