Gordon and Ruth Walker

Walker, Ruth Christina, 81 of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Edgewood and Earlesville, Maryland passed away peacefully on January 26, 2015 after a brief illness. Her husband, Gordon Lopez Walker, 83, of Zephyrhills, Florida joined her in God’s loving arms the next day, January 27, 2015 after a long bout with emphysema. Ruth was born on November 28, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Albert and Gertrude Slechter. Gordon was born on November 22, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Edgar and Florence Walker. Ruth is survived by her brother Albert and his wife Elaine of Bluffton, South Carolina; and they are both survived by their five children, Gordon(Bunk) Walker Junior (Nancy) of Belcamp, Maryland, Christina Reed (David) of Columbia, Maryland, Teresa Davis (Gary) of Zephyrhills, Florida, Mark Walker (Christine) of Essex, Maryland, and Joseph (Dave)Walker (Kathleen) of White Hall, Maryland. They also leave behind fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Gordon was the owner and president of Edgemere Terminals, Incorporated, a trucking/warehousing firm in Baltimore, Maryland. He was also an Army veteran having served in the Korean War in the Transportation Corp. Ruth was a devoted mother and avid bowler. They were active supporters of Edgewood High School soccer and loved to boat the Chesapeake Bay. Gordon retired in 1996 and after several years in Earlesville, Maryland, they relocated to Zephyrhills, Florida. They were active members of their church. They both loved to travel and particularly enjoyed their trips to Europe, Hawaii and the Holy Land. The family will hold visitation February 28, 2015, 11am-1pm at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 West Mac Phail Road, Bel Air, Maryland , services will be held post visitation at 1pm. Military Honors burial will take place at 2pm on Saturday February 28, 2015 at Bel Air Memorial Garden, 809 Rock Spring Road, Bel Air, Maryland .
