Irene Ann Jenkins

Irene Ann Jenkins, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on August 28, 2026, just two weeks shy of her 77th birthday. She was born on September 11, 1949, to the late Martin William Pitz and Anna Pitz and grew up in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland.

Irene attended Patterson High School before continuing her education at Essex Community College and Salisbury State University. She began her working career at BGE before finding her true passion serving as a secretary at several churches throughout the area. She ended her career at Calvary Lutheran Church and School, where she served as both the church and school secretary and also shared her knowledge with students as a computer teacher.

Irene’s Lutheran faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Joppa, Maryland, where she treasured worship, fellowship, and especially Bible study. Her faith provided her with strength, comfort, and a sense of purpose throughout her life.

A true Baltimore girl through and through, Irene may very well have been one of Baltimore’s biggest sports fans. She was a devoted Orioles and Ravens fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her teams. She also loved trivia, getting lost in a good book, and, perhaps most of all, spending time with her toes in the sand at her beach house in OVR.

But as much as Irene loved the beach, her books, trivia, and her Baltimore sports, nothing compared to the love she had for her family. Her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was the family she and William built together. She treasured the time she spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren above all else.

Irene shared more than 55 years of marriage with her loving husband, William Anthony Jenkins, whom she married on April 10, 1971. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and the values that mattered most to them, creating a legacy that will continue through their children and grandchildren.

Irene is survived by her husband, William; her son Scott William Jenkins and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Harper and Pierson Jenkins; and her son Jeffrey William Jenkins and his wife, Theresa, and their children, Casey, Brady, Rory, and Zoey Jenkins.

Irene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will carry forward the love she gave, the faith that was so meaningful to her, and the countless memories they were blessed to share with her.

Though they grieve her absence, her family takes comfort in the life she lived, the love she shared, and the lasting impact she made on those around her. They will remember Irene with gratitude and hold close the many memories of her warmth, humor, devotion, and unwavering love for her family.

A visitation will take place at Schimunek Funeral Home of Bel Air, Inc., located at 610 W. MacPhail Road, Bel Air, MD, 21014 on Friday, September 4th, 2026, from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1100 Philadelphia Rd, Joppa, MD 21085 on Saturday, September 5th, 2026, at 10am. With an interment to follow at Moreland Memorial Park, located at 1601 Taylor Ave, Parkville, MD 21234.

After the interment, the family would like to invite extended family and friends to a luncheon at MaGerks, located at 120 South Bond Street, Bel Air, MD 21014.
