Irene H. Machala

Irene Helen Machala of Bel Air, MD passed away on April 26th at the age of 89. She was born in Canonsburg, PA to the late Mary and Andrew T. Kovatch and was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years August J. Machala, her loving daughter Linda M. Hawkins and her dear brother Andrew T. Kovatch, Jr.

She lived in Dundalk, MD for over 45 years, raising her two children, before moving to Bel Air, MD in 1995. Irene was passionate about her family and close friends. She loved to play the piano which she also taught for many years. An avid reader and fan of the Orioles, she also treasured her time traveling with her husband and dear friends.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Janice Machala of Jarrettsville, MD; her granddaughter Pamela Machala of San Diego, CA and grandsons Matthew Machala and his wife Kelly of Jarrettsville, MD; Mark Hawkins and his wife Kim of Melbourne, FL and Christopher “Swampy” Hawkins of Burbank, CA. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, many friends and her beloved supportive neighbors at English Country Manor.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 10:30 am at St. Marks Catholic Church, 2407 Laurel Brook Road, Fallston, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Xcite Steps, 3978 Sorrento Valley Blvd., Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92121 to help support Autism Therapy.
