Dear Nelson Family,
I’m sorry for your loss. It truly was a pleasure to know your Mother. She was a wonderful friend to me and my family. She was always willing to listen to my concerns about raising to boys on my own after their father died at such a young age. I have such wonderful memories of your Mother. 
She was a great friend to me.

I met Joan at the Maryland School for the Blind and she became a dear friend. She had a passion for the children that she worked with and was a wonderful colleague. Her office was a haven for many of us. When you entered her office in Media Support, you were greeted with music (often Elvis) Joan's beautiful smile and some wonderful treat that she had made at home for everybody. Many of us migrated into her office at "break time" and those few minutes with her refreshed us for the challenges of the day.  We celebrated birthdays together, had wonderful dinners and many laughs.  She was indeed a great lady. She embodied grace, dignity, compassion and humor. I will miss her wise presence and the warmth that she spread wherever she went.  I am so glad that she was part of my life. 

May beautiful and fond memories of your beloved mother bring you and your family comfort during this hard time in your lives. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you!

I am so sorry to hear of Joan's passing. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Joan and I worked together at The Maryland School for the Blind in the MIRC braille department. 

I’m so very sorry for your loss. She was such a good friend to my mom over their years which began with their years together at the MD School for the Blind…, my mom would spend many an evening at her house staying up to the wee hours of the morning with her playing scrabble or cards and such and then come home and get a few winks before going back into work;)🤪. Mrs Joan was a lovely lady. 

I know they hadn’t seen each other in many years… but they are now together again in heaven and I’m sure my mom was waiting with open arms:). Prayers to all of you 

She was a great friend. Always spoke kindly and careily to me and others. Never did I hear a negative or bad word- words come out of her mouth.  She held her head high and fought having overcome so many obstacles  pertaining to her health with a smile always on her face. Listening to her telling me stories about all the wonderful kids she helped when working at the school for the blind.  She loved that job! She loved her family, her friends and her dogs and she loved life. I will our talks, rides and most especially our just hanging out together and our friend Jackie. We would laugh and called ourselves the three musketeers.  I loved you Joan with all my heart and you will be with me forever. 

Joan was a great person with a kind heart. She welcomed me and my family almost 7 years ago to MD with open arms. Always welcoming. She was a great cook and excellent baker. She made the best milk cake. 

Joan, my life was enriched from the day we met.  You will always be in my heart and memories. Your love for your family, always came first in your life. You will always be with me. Love you
