We are so very sorry for the loss of Ms Lois.  She taught me how to play softball and we have many fun , fond memories of our times with the Bomberettes softball team. Even though we might not have seen each other over many years..when we did get together..the laughter continued.  Heaven is gonna be very lively now ! I will always remember Lois asking about my mother on Monday morning when I went to work, and how she sent her cakes every Monday for years! Lois invited members of my family to many sporting and holiday events as if my nephews and nieces were her own.  Even as adults now, they still get excited when they talk about the great times they had. She was a true friend and will be greatly missed.

Aunt Lois,You were such an amazing person who touched the lives of many. I will always have great memories of the wonderful christmas parties.
Aunt Nancy, I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. I just hope that you find courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Aunt Lois, What a special life that you and Ms. Nancy gave to Denise,myself,Billy and Michael Schmidt. We spent a lot of time with Ms.Nancy and Aunt Lois. We went on so many fun vacations. I remember being stuck on a hill on a snow mobile and all we could do was just laugh. The most special times are going to my Aunts every weekend. I often would say I don't know what I would have done if I did not have these two wonderful women in my life. My Aunt truly loved Ms.Nancy. They were both able to give so much to the world. I will always be so sad that I let time get away from me. I will miss my Aunt very much, but I will always have special memories from 2 great Ladies. I will miss you Aunt Lois. I will always love you.

LOIS H. MUELLER
           1935 - 2014

Born to John and Catherine (nee Bennett) Miller on January 8th, 1935, in Baltimore Maryland, Lois H. Mueller was one of nine children.  She had four sisters: Marie Hamburg (deceased), Bertha Bevin's (deceased), Norma Fisher (deceased) and Anna Schmidt.  Lois also had four brothers: John Miller (deceased), Joseph Miller, Albert Miller (deceased) and Robert Miller.  

Many may wonder why Lois' last name is Mueller whereas her parents and her siblings are named Miller.  At Sacred Heart of Jesus, a German priest baptized half the Miller children as Mueller thinking that it was the proper German translation.  When he left the parish, the other children were baptized as Millers.  Over the years, the Mueller siblings changed their name to Miller.  However, Lois decided to keep Mueller as it was more distinctive.
 
In her youth, Lois excelled in sports, especially softball as a catcher.  She was rated the best catcher on the east coast and was recruited to play on a Triple A team named Ray Bestos in Connecticut.  However, her love of family and her desire to participate in her nieces and nephews lives kept her in Baltimore.  Staying local she was able to enjoy her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews.  It was not uncommon for “Aunt Lo” to rent a pony for special birthday parties for the kids to enjoy.  One of the memorable events at the end of each softball season was for Lois to take her team to Jessup prison and play a game against the inmates. On one occasion, when the prison bell rang and the inmates came charging out, Lois' family which included her parents thought that the prisoners were escaping and ran to their cars.  In actuality, the inmates were just coming out to play the softball game.  This was a running joke in the family for years.

One of Lois' favorite Holidays was Christmas.  She loved everything about it especially decorating the house.  One year she felt that the family would enjoy a pink Christmas tree so she proceeded to spray paint the tree pink.  Unfortunately the paint was not good for the tree and the Miller's did not have a tree for Christmas that year. 

After high school, Lois joined the Marine Corp and served our country for two years. This helped to further establish her sense of patriotism and her pride for the USA. 

Lois began her employment as an office clerk with the Baltimore City Circuit Court in 1958 under the Clerkship of Henry J. Ripperger. She remained in that position until she was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy Clerk on July 1, 1978, under the Clerkship of Ronald J. Wiley. In 1982, by Legislative mandate, the six separate courts in Baltimore City were consolidated. Under the new law, it was determined that one newly elected clerk would hold the position as Clerk of Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Saundra E. Banks was elected to the newly created office. Saundra appointed Patricia M. Bertorelli as her Chief Deputy and Pat selected Lois as her Assistant Chief Deputy, thus Lois went from supervising approximately 15-20 employees to 250 employees. This was a huge undertaking of which she thought she would not be able to accomplish. What she didn't know, was that she was chosen because of her work ethic. There was a reason that Ron Wiley selected her as his Chief Deputy in 1978, and it was the same reason why she was selected for this newly created position in 1982. Lois was not only a dedicated, hard working employee, but also a loyal one. Her moral compass was to get the job done, and that she did. She accomplished everything that she set out to do with determination and exactness, but more importantly with kindness and understanding. She was always looking out for people that came to her with personal or work problems, and she was always there to help. Other people always came first. She worked like she lived with love always in her heart. Lois retired from the Court system in 1999 after 42 years of dedicated service. The Court was a better place because of her. Although Lois was a hard and dedicated worker, she also knew how to enjoy life and traveled to many memorable places with her good friend Nancy Nechay.  Together they visited Hawaii, Alaska, Bahamas, England, France, Luxemburg, and the Netherlands.  

About 11 years ago, Lois and Nancy moved to Fallston where they enjoyed spending much of their time working on their home and gardens.  Their home soon became one that was admired by everyone in the neighborhood because of their spectacular and meticulous gardens.  Lois loved her John Deere tractor and even after hours of hard yard work, not one strand of her hair was out of place. Soon, all the ladies in the neighborhood started mowing their lawns on their tractors as well.  

Lois was a real people person and a great sister, aunt, friend and neighbor and was loved and respected by all.  As an avid Orioles fan, she often attended home games or cheered for them as she watched them play on TV. She loved her dogs and enjoyed walking the neighborhood.  Her beloved Golden Retriever “AJ” was by her side throughout her illness and he misses her terribly.  Lois took particular pride in sharing a birthday (same day and year) with Elvis Presley and loved to joke and laugh about it and even impersonate him.  She enjoyed Christmas and collected over 100 Santa Clauses over the years.  Nancy and she hosted a large Mueller/Nechay Christmas party each year so that they could spend time with their large families.


WE KNOW LOIS IS OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL AND WE WILL MISS HER.

Shortly after we moved in to the neighborhood and the weather turned warmer, it was obvious who had the most beautifully manicured lawn and gardens on the block! We would see Lois and Nancy outside meticulously tending to their yard. Nancy would always be driving the tractor as Lois was happily seeing to the details of the gardens. Then one day Lois took a stab at driving the tractor and Nancy never got a turn after that! Lois, with her perfectly styled hairdo would be zipping around the yard on that mower loving every minute of it, because that's how she lived life. What a blessing to have known you, Lois. It is with our sincere sympathy that we remember Aunt Lois and pray for Nancy's peace & comfort. Our mother, Ann Schmidt, was Aunt Lois' sister. She remembers her sister as a wonderful, generous aunt to she & Dad's children.  Mom's most cherished memories growing up with her sister Lois were playing softball and being woke up to eat late night pizzas in bed.  From the time we were children she & Nancy would take me & my sister Donna to Ocean City, Skiing trips and spent many great times together. Aunt Lois was such a special, loving Godmother to my brother Billy Schmidt and a special aunt to my brother Michael.  My sister, Donna, spent much time over the years with Aunt Lois & Nancy at their home in Baltimore where she helped them & made blessed memories.  I always remember the school in town where Donna first played softball & mom made candy apples for events. I always felt a special excitement inside as a child when our parents would tell us “Your Aunt Lois will be coming over the house” and always looked forward to the next special outing with her & Nancy.  Aunt Lois had a special gift in bonding with the children & will be missed by so many.  Her Christmas parties grew bigger as the years passed bringing family & friends together. She asked me to remember & acknowledge our dad, William (Bill) Schmidt, at the last 2013 “Mueller-Nechay Christmas Party” and that we did; not knowing it would be the last one shared with her. Thank you Aunt Lois for asking my husband Mark to sing “God Bless the USA” at the close of the Christmas Party, it's your song now & our treasure as I was listening to it having thoughts of you late Sept. 11th not knowing you were entering The Gates of Heaven……“When you see the butterfly, think of me and I'll think of you and remember we love you always……May God bless you & Nancy and keep you in his care.

Aunt Lo is going to be missed by our entire family.  She was always the glue that got all the family together at least once a year for Christmas.  Last weekend when we visited with her, Aunt Nancy told us a story about how Aunt Lo wasn't just Aunt Lo to US.  But, she was also Aunt Lo to everyone in her neighborhood.  That made me smile.  Aunt Lo was smart, hardworking, independent, feisty, strong, admirable and loving.  She will definitely be missed by everyone, friends and family included.
Aunt Nancy, please remember to reach out to all of us if you need/want help or if you just want to talk or cry.  We didn't just love Aunt Lo, we love you too!

Aunt Lo left an imprint of love for so many in her actions and words.  I am so honored to have been your God Son.  Thank you for the wonderful memories you and Aunt Nancy have left me.  I love you and will see you soon as life is very short but you certainly lived it to the fullest.

My first introduction to Lois was in 2011 when my wife Amanda and I and our two kids moved next door to Lois and Nancy. About a week had gone by and I locked my family and I out of the house and it was about 15 degrees. No jackets, no car keys and no way to get back in the house. I started to panic as my kids were 4 and 2. I walked next store and knocked on their door, Nancy answered and as I started to introduce myself and explain that I had locked us out of the house, Lois had already ushered my kids past the adults, had them at the kitchen table with cookies and milk. She then looked at me and said your gonna need a glass of wine. That was how both Nancy and Lois have been since we moved in. Lois was a feisty fun loving soul and she will truly be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy and the rest of the family during this most difficult time. Lois knew how to make you feel so welcomed.  She was a gem.

Our deepest condolences to Nancy and all of Lois' family.  Lois was a wonderful woman in every way.  She was always a pleasant and positive person, a hard worker and a devoted friend.
