Lucy met a young Marine Joe Kelly from Missouri, who was stationed in DC at the time on a blind date. The two were then married on 16 July 1955. Lucy worked at Capitol Records before they traveled to San Diego. While in San Diego she spent time with the wounded at the Veteran Affairs.
After moving back to Maryland, she volunteered with the Kennedy Krieger Festival of Trees, Ed Block Courage Awards. Lucy also served as president of Sun Downer Park in Ocean City for twenty years. After retiring from the Baltimore Orioles in 1994 after many years of service, she took on roles at the Baltimore Stallions (CFL) and Baltimore Ravens. Spending time with her family and most importantly cooking for everyone on holidays was one of her favorite things to do.
