Maria Taylor (née Sachsenmaier) was born in 1933 in New York City to Eugen Sachsenmaier (deceased) and Hilda Remensperger Sachsenmaier Volk (deceased), both German immigrants. Her Maternal Grandparents were Klara Charlotte (Kost) and Josef Remensperger of Oberndorf am Neckar, Bavaria, Germany, and her Paternal Grandparents were Elizabeth and Paul Sachsenmaier of Stuttgart, Germany.
After graduating from St Joseph High School (January, 1951) in Brooklyn, Maria worked as a corporate trust clerk for Chase National Bank in New York for two years until enlisting in the U.S. Navy on 3 Dec 1952. She used to say that some of her greatest adventures and most fun she ever had came during her years as a WAVE. She met her husband, the late Oliver E. (Ed) Taylor, while stationed at the USNTC in Great Lakes, IL. They were married at the station chapel on June 5, 1954. Maria was honorably discharged from the Navy in October of 1954, as at the time women could not continue their military service while starting a family.
She spent many years as a homemaker, accompanying her husband to various duty stations around the Pacific, coming back to the East Coast in the 1960's. Later in life after her husband's retirement and the family's move to Florida, she joined Sears as a salesperson in their tool and hardware department. She won many sales awards over the years and was well known and respected by her co-workers and customers.
Maria also had a passion for amateur (a.k.a. "Ham") radio for many years, and after her introduction to the hobby she quickly moved through the various levels to earn her Extra license, spending many hours talking to fellow hobbyists all over the world under the call sign "KJ3T," now gone silent.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her five children; Richard (Susan), John (Joyce), Stephen, Susan (Anthony), and Joanna (Joseph); and many grandchildren, as well as one brother, Eugene Sachsenmaier.
